Out of my curiosity, i placed a helenarou 5513 dial (26mm) inside the case. Unfortunately, the dial falls through the rehaut. Measurements show that the stock dial is nearly 27mm in diameter. JKF are generally better than BP and are a better base to build on. Don’t worry about the plexi - its one of the first things you’ll replace with a Clarks / Sternkreuz. I havent got a 4 digit BP, but I do have a JKF 1680. Recess the seat of the crown (use a square file to remove tube and blue loctite to reinstall) as well as square off the inner crownguard a bit. Shave the tops of the crownguards, this will take the attention off of the lower crown position on jkf’s compared to gens.
I got the JKF 5513 with 2813 movement from Marvelous Replicas for really cheap and absolutely loved it. I replaced the crystal with the Clark's T19 and aged the dial but messed it up. I ended up getting a whole new Viet dial and hands with custom matching lume, a gen NOS ETA 2840, and the ETA movement retaining ring for the case. Ordered this JKF Rolex 5513 on Jan 4th from Marvelous Reps which is a TD on RWI that specializes in vintage reps. It cost 0 shipped which is amazing for what you are getting. I had the option of a 2836 clone or the DG2813.
Few things that I liked with the JKF 1665 is the improved caseback engravings, the bigger lug holes with shoulderless springbars, and the thinner crown.
